Journalist claims Spurs are still ‘waiting for formal offers’ for 26-year-old despite reports

Contrary to the various reports that have been doing the rounds over the last few days, Sky Sports’ Lyall Thomas has indicated that Tottenham are still waiting for a formal offer to be made for Giovani Lo Celso.

TYC Sports journalist Cesar Luis Merlo claimed on Monday that Spurs and Villarreal were in the final stages of negotiations over Lo Celso and the Argentine is expected to return to the La Liga club on a loan deal with an option or obligation to buy.

Alfredo Pedulla revealed yesterday that Villarreal are in a hurry to close a deal for the midfielder as Fiorentina have not given up on their pursuit of the Tottenham man.

The journalist claimed the 26-year-old is getting ‘closer’ to returning to El Madrigal and added that the Viola are expected to make another attempt to hijack the deal today (Wednesday).

However, Thomas has now taken to social media to claim that neither Villarreal nor Fiorentina have made a formal offer for Lo Celso.

The journalist claimed that both clubs want to sign the midfielder on loan with an option to buy but Spurs are waiting for either of them to put an offer ‘into writing’.

Despite this update from Thomas, the general consensus seems to be that Villarreal and Fiorentina have stepped up their pursuit of Lo Celso over the last few days.

It appears as though the La Liga club are the favourites to sign the 26-year-old as things stand. I would not be surprised if the transfer is concluded by the weekend.
