Journalist claims Spurs are ‘strongest candidate’ to sign Premier League winger

Turkish journalist Ekrem Konur has taken to social media to claim that Tottenham Hotspur are the front-runners to sign Leicester City winger Demarai Gray.

Gray was linked with a move to Spurs in the previous transfer window but the move never materialised, with the Foxes said to be demanding £20m for the wide man despite the fact that his contract runs out next summer.

Duncan Castles revealed last month in The Transfer Window Podcast that Leicester believe that Gray is on his way to Spurs, with the journalist suggesting that the 24-year-old’s refusal to sign a contract is the reason why he has been frozen out by Brendan Rodgers.

Konur has now backed up Castles’ claim, suggesting that Tottenham are front-runners for the former England Under-21 international’s signature.

While reporting on Fenerbahce’s link with the Leicester player he revealed that the Turkish club have not made an offer for Gray and that Jose Mourinho wants to bring him to Spurs.

The journalist did not reveal if a January move is likely or if Spurs are planning to wait until the summer but he suggested that Mourinho sees the winger as a cross between Erik Lamela and Lucas Moura.
