Journalist claims Spurs can raise almost £150m from player sales this summer

Football.London’s Rob Guest has claimed that Tottenham Hotspur could look to raise almost £150m this summer by moving on some of their fringe players.

Tottenham’s struggles over the last few months have exposed several areas of weakness in the squad.

If the North Londoners wish to narrow the gap with the likes of Manchester City and compete at the top end of the league, they will have to strengthen the squad significantly in the summer.

Guest revealed that it would be a big challenge for Spurs to do so since the club would have to sell players in order to raise transfer funds for their targets.

Based on Transfermarkt’s valuation of the various players in the Tottenham squad, he estimates that the Lilywhites could raise £145m without selling Harry Kane.

Guest suggests that Dele Alli (£28.8m), Eric Dier (£22.5m), Harry Winks (£19.8m), Serge Aurier (£18m), Erik Lamela (£14.4m), Toby Alderweireld (£13.5m), Moussa Sissoko (£11.7m), Juan Foyth (£13m) and Paulo Gazzaniga (£3.6m) could all be sold in the summer.

One thing that Transfermarkt’s valuation does not seem to take into account is the fact that the likes of Aurier and Lamela are set to run into the final years of their contracts. So, one would expect them to fetch under £15m in the market.

I also believe that Spurs are more likely to cash in on Bergwijn and Sanchez than Dier and Sissoko. Either way, it looks like this could be the busiest summer the club have had in quite a long time.
