Journalist claims Spurs could meet Bundesliga defender’s release clause this summer

According to Sport Bild journalist Christian Falk (as relayed by Sport Witness), Tottenham Hotspur are one of three English clubs interested in signing RB Leipzig defender Ibrahima Konate in the upcoming summer transfer window.

Jose Mourinho is reportedly keen on bolstering his options in central defence but the Tottenham boss has admitted that he does not expect the club to sign any players before Monday’s transfer deadline.

Konate, who is considered to be one of the top young centre-backs in Bundesliga, has now emerged as a target for the North London club.

The youngster’s reputation has blossomed after formed a formidable partnership with Dayot Upamecano at the back for Leipzig.

According to Falk, the 21-year-old has a release clause of around €30m (£26.5m) which Tottenham could look to activate at the end of the season.

He also revealed that Liverpool and Manchester United also hold interest in the Frenchman.

The journalist is quoted as saying: “Of course he’s (Konate) in great demand.

“But he’s also got an exit clause of around €30m plus that can be made possible this summer. Liverpool know that, United know that and Tottenham too.

“Leipzig have to be prepared for an exciting summer transfer window if they are to avoid losing two centre-backs come the end of it.”

Konate fits the profile of player Tottenham usually go for as he is young and has potential to improve. However, I would not be surprised if Jose Mourinho pushes to bring in a more experienced centre-back in the summer as we seem to lack leaders at the back.
