Journalist claims Spurs ‘could offer’ Emerson Royal in part-exchange deal

Italian journalist Marco Barzaghi has said that Tottenham could try to win the race for Denzel Dumfries by offering Emerson Royal to Inter Milan as part of the deal.

Multiple reports over recent weeks have indicated that Antonio Conte wants to sign an elite right wing-back during the January transfer window, with Pedro Porro said to be Spurs’ top target (The Athletic).

However, another wing-back who has been linked with a move to Spurs over recent months is Dumfries, with the Lilywhites thought to be battling their London rivals Chelsea for the Netherlands international (TuttoSport).

Sportitalia claimed a couple of days ago that Inter want a whopping €60m (£53.1m) for the 26-year-old on the back of his performances at the World Cup, and suggested that the asking price does not put off Chelsea.

Barzaghi has now remarked that Manchester United and Bayern Munich are also on Dumfries’ trail but added that Tottenham may use Emerson as a bargaining chip to beat other suitors to the player.

The journalist said on his YouTube channel (as relayed by FC Inter 1908): “Dumfries had a star turn at the World Cup, with goals and assists,

“Given the prices that are circulating, 60 million could fit, but even 50 million could be good. A bidding war cannot be ruled out with Chelsea, Manchester United and Bayern Munich.

“(They) could offer the Moroccan flanker Mazraoui as a quid pro quo, but he costs and could fetch around 20 million. Tottenham is also on the player and could offer Emerson Royal.”

Spurs Web Opinion

We know that Paratici is not shy of proposing part-exchange offers and so, one would expect the Spurs managing director to hold discussions with Inter if they show interest in Emerson. However, based on the reports over recent weeks, it does seem like Conte prefers Porro over Dumfries.
