According to GiveMeSport and Dean Jones, Tottenham could revisit their interest in Burnley centre-back James Tarkowski after looking at him in January.
The 29-year-old has made 219 appearances for the Lancashire club (TransferMarkt) and has attracted a number of potential Premier League suitors due to his contract coming to an end this summer (Daily Mail).
Spurs have been linked to a number of centre backs in recent months, including Red Bull Leipzig’s Josep Gvardiol, Inter Milan’s Allessandro Bastoni, and Torino’s Gleison Bremer (GiveMeSport).
Although perhaps not a priority signing for Spurs, he is Premier League proven and would contribute to fulfilling the homegrown quota which would appease Daniel Levy’s watchful eye.
Spurs Web Opinion
I think it is fair to say that most Spurs fans have their hearts set on a left-footed, Rolls-Royce type centre-back who will come into the side and immediately improve us. This has to be one of the club’s priorities in the upcoming window.
Saying this, Spurs could do a lot worse than bringing Tarkowski in as cover across the backline, especially with next season’s schedule saturated with Champions League and cup ties.
Tarkowski is highly unlikely to be seen as the leading candidate over any of the other names linked and would thus likely be brought in as extra personnel.
However, due to his experience of marshalling a defence, Tarkowski would represent an affordable option to provide cover for the impressive Eric Dier.
