Journalist claims Spurs ‘definitely have an interest’ in 25-year-old PL star

Journalist Dean Jones has claimed that Tottenham Hotspur definitely have an interest in Youri Tielemens but insisted that the Leicester City star is not seen as a priority by Antonio Conte’s side.

Tielemans has just 12 months left to run on his contract at the King Power Stadium (Transfermarkt) and the midfielder admitted back in March that he is ready to make a step up to a ‘top European club’ (talkSPORT).

There have been some mixed reports over recent months regarding Tottenham’s interest in the Leicester star.

GiveMeSport claimed back in April that Tottenham plan on making a move for the 25-year-old in the summer if they qualify for the Champions League.

However, The Telegraph subsequently reported that some at Spurs have reservations regarding a move for the Belgian international.

According to The Athletic’s David Ornstein, Tielemens ranks high on Arsenal’s wishlist for the summer and the Gunners are confident of winning the race for the Foxes star’s signature.

Jones has now insisted that Spurs will not be too fused if they do not snap up the midfielder.

The journalist told GiveMeSport: “Youri Tielemans’ future is up in the air too. He’s got a few clubs interested. Tottenham definitely have an interest there, but it wouldn’t be the end of the world if they didn’t get him.”

I do not think Tielemans would fit Conte’s 3-4-3 system as the Belgian is not good enough defensively to play in a two-man midfield.

Signing a midfielder of the Foxes star’s profile would give Conte the flexibility to switch to a 3-5-2 if needed but there are arguably better options out there for that role, with Eriksen being one of them.
