Journalist claims Spurs expected to complete £15m-£17m deal for new player

Journalist Pete O’Rourke has claimed that Tottenham Hotspur are expected to accelerate a deal for Takehiro Tomoyasu over the coming days.

Tottenham were reportedly confident of hammering out a deal for Tomiyasu a couple of weeks ago, with some sources even claiming there had been a breakthrough in the Lilywhites’ negotiations with Bologna.

The speculation linking the North Londoners with a move for the Japanese international has subsequently died down.

Football.London’s Alasdair Gold insisted last week that the 22-year-old’s entourage still remain confident the player will join Spurs before the window closes but there have been rumours over recent days suggesting that Leicester could look to hijack the deal.

O’Rourke has now eased Spurs fans’ fears by revealing on The Football Terrace’s YouTube Channel (starting at 48.10) that the Lilywhites will look to step up their pursuit of Tomiyasu now the Olympics are over.

The journalist insisted that Tottenham are expected to complete a fee of around £15m-£17m with Bologna for the versatile defender.

Tomiyasu’s arrival will offer more balance to the squad, allowing Nuno to more easily switch between a back three and a back four. I suspect that the Japanese defender’s arrival will mean that Japhet Tanganga is sent out on loan.
