Journalist claims Spurs fans could be ‘annoyed’ with centre-back transfer update

Transfer expert Dean Jones has revealed it is unlikely Tottenham will make a move to sign a centre-back this month and could shelve those plans until the summer.

Tottenham have yet to make a move in the transfer window so far, despite Antonio Conte reiterating the importance of the club being active in the market (Evening Standard).

The Italian made it clear that there was a gap between Spurs and the Premier League’s top sides (Sky Sports), which was magnified after the club’s exit to Chelsea in the Carabao Cup semi-final.

Football.London suggested Spurs have prioritised drafting in a right wing-back, striker and centre-back to bolster the club’s chances of finishing the second half of the season strongly.

However, Jones has put a dampener on Spurs bringing in a new central defender this month having not found the right profile as of yet – a move which he believes could frustrate the club’s fans.

Speaking on The Done Deal Show, Jones said: “In terms of a centre-back, it’s not looking likely.

“What I was told just before the weekend was that Tottenham because they can’t narrow-in on who they would want right now, it’s not that much of a priority that they want to panic.

“It is expected that they will put that off until the summer now. I suspect some Tottenham fans will probably be annoyed about that, but it’s probably sensible if they can’t get the right fit.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Spurs do need reinforcements, but there is no point spending money for the sake of it – especially if they are not going to fit into Conte’s system adequately. But that isn’t an excuse for the club, who have had well over two weeks to identify their targets. Hopefully, we’ll see moves start to ramp up in the coming days.
