Journalist claims Spurs have had an eye on French midfielder for ‘some time’

Dean Jones has said that Tottenham Hotspur could reignite their interest in Juventus midfielder, Adrien Rabiot, in January, having had their eye on the midfielder for ‘some time’.

Rabiot had flattered to deceive in his first few seasons in Turin after his switch from Paris Saint-Germain in 2019 but the midfielder has turned a corner this campaign, having been one of Juve’s most consistent performers in the first part of 2022-23.

The 27-year-old has taken that form into the World Cup, having put in two solid displays in France’s wins over Australia and Denmark, even finding the back of the net in the former.

Calciomercato reported last week that Spurs, Chelsea and Arsenal are eyeing a move for Rabiot in January, with the report asserting that Fabio Paratici is a ‘great admirer’ of the former PSG man.

The midfielder’s current contract at the Allianz Stadium runs out at the end of the season (Transfermarkt) and Jones believes that Antonio Conte’s men might be tempted to make an offer if he continues impressing in Qatar.

The journalist told GiveMeSport: “There are players, like Rabiot, where they’ve (Tottenham) had an eye on their situation for some time, and they might just convince them that they are worth pursuing again.”

While Rabiot is a talented player, another central midfielder is arguably the last thing we need in January, given the options Conte has at his disposal. Besides, the 27-year-old’s attitude problems are well documented and he might be a disruptive influence on the Tottenham dressing room.
