Italian journalist Nicolo Schira has claimed that Tottenham Hotspur are interested in signing Napoli centre-back Nikola Maksimovic in the upcoming summer transfer window.
Maksimovic has never managed to establish himself as a regular in the heart of the Napoli defence since arriving at the club in 2017 but he has been a crucial member of the squad, often stepping up to the mark when needed.
The central defender has struggled for game time this season, having managed just eight Serie A appearances so far, with most of his minutes coming in the Europa League (transfermarkt.com).
Sport Italia journalist Gianluigi Longari revealed to Il Napoli Online (as relayed by TEAMtalk) earlier this week that the 29-year-old could be on his way out of Napoli as he has only six months left to run on his contract and Tottenham are one of the clubs willing to meet his wage demands.
Schira has now revealed that the North Londoners are hoping to sign Maksimovic as a free agent in the summer and have already held talks to that effect with the defender’s agent Fali Ramadani.

While Maksimovic will certainly add plenty of experience to our backline, there are question marks about whether Serbian is of the required quality to improve us. I would not be surprised if it is the 29-year-old’s agent is simply throwing our name in the mix to strengthen his client’s negotiating position over a new deal at Naples.
