Journalist claims Spurs’ interest in 22-year-old is getting ‘stronger and stronger’

Sky Sport Italia journalist Manuele Baiocchini has revealed that Tottenham’s interest in Lille centre-back Sven Botman is now getting stronger and stronger.

Inter Milan’s Alessandro Bastoni was reportedly Tottenham’s top target for the left centre-back role (Football.London) but the North Londoners’ pursuit of the Italian seems to have fallen through after the 23-year-old’s agent revealed on Wednesday that his client will be staying put at the San Siro (Football Italia).

It was previously reported that Botman was another of the options on Antonio Conte’s radar for the same role (The Athletic).

TuttoMercatoWeb reported two weeks ago that AC Milan were leading the race for the Netherlands international and that the Serie A giants had already agreed on personal terms with the centre-back.

However, if Baiocchini’s latest update is to be believed, Milan have suffered a setback in their pursuit of Botman and have turned their attention to signing Renato Sanches next instead.

The journalist revealed that Spurs, Newcastle United and Manchester United are now stepping up their efforts to sign the 22-year-old centre-back.

Meanwhile, Fabrizio Romano has reported that Newcastle are entering key stages of their talks with Lille over a possible deal, with Botman open to a Premier League move.

Graeme Bailey has also claimed that PSG have made an enquiry over the defender, with AC Milan still in the race and Newcastle looking to ‘jump the queue’.

Spurs Web Opinion

Botman appears much better equipped to cope with the physical demands of the Premier League than the likes of Pau Torres or Clement Lenglet. However, the Dutchman is arguably better suited to playing in a back four and is seemingly not as good on the ball as the Villarreal or the Barca stars.
