Sky Sports’ Lyall Thomas has revealed that Tottenham would prefer to sign Milan Skriniar over his Inter Milan teammate Stefan de Vrij.
Skriniar and De Vrij played a pivotal role for Antonio Conte’s title-winning Inter side back in 2020-21 but both players’ futures are up in the air, with their current contracts at the San Siro running out at the end of the season.
Both centre-backs have been linked with moves to Spurs over recent months, with De Vrij’s name, in particular, being mentioned repeatedly as a target for the North London club.
Football Insider reported at the start of December that Antonio Conte had already spoken to the Dutchman about a move to Tottenham while Fichajes claimed last week that the Lilywhites were the front-runners to sign the 30-year-old ahead of Atletico Madrid.
Although Skriniar is also said to be on Spurs’ radar, Conte’s men reportedly face a lot more competition for Slovak, who is also allegedly on the radars of Arsenal and Paris Saint-Germain (CalcioMercatoWeb.it).
Thomas has now claimed that the Tottenham head coach ‘likes’ Skriniar more than De Vrij.
The journalist said on the Last Word On Spurs YouTube channel: “De Vrij has worked under Conte before and we know he likes him a lot the right-footer. He’s another good player. There are two right-footers that are good at Inter and I think Skriniar, they like him more than De Vrij.”

My gut instinct is that Skriniar will eventually put pen to paper on a new deal with Inter while De Vrij is likely to leave as a free agent next summer for one final payday at a different club. I do expect Tottenham to vie for the Dutchman’s signature next summer.
