Journalist claims Spurs-linked duo would add goals for Antonio Conte’s side

Journalist Pete O’Rourke believes that rumoured Tottenham targets James Ward-Prowse and Lautaro Martinez would instantly improve Spurs’ starting eleven, insisting that the duo are the kind of players the North London club need to go after this summer.

According to previous reports, Antonio Conte wishes to sign two new midfielders during the summer transfer window (Telegraph).

Alasdair Gold said on a Q&A in Football.London late last month that Ward-Prowse has been on Tottenham’s radar for a long time.

This information has been backed up by The Daily Star, who claimed recently that the Lilywhites are one of several Premier League clubs to hold an interest in the Saints star, who is thought to be valued at around £60m.

Meanwhile, Lautaro Martinez is also expected to be available for around £51m this summer, due to Inter Milan’s financial difficulties, with Spurs and Arsenal said to be competing for the Argentine international’s signature (Gazzetta dello Sport).

O’Rouke believes that Martinez and Ward-Prowse would both add goals to the Tottenham side.

When asked about Tottenham’s interest in the duo, the journalist told GiveMeSport: “Two very good players, Ward-Prowse and Martinez. I think they would definitely improve that Spurs squad straight away. They’ll also add goals as well if they were both to arrive.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Ward-Prowse, in many respects, would be an ideal fit for Spurs as the England international has the engine and tactical nous to fit into Conte’s system, while also possessing more technical quality than any of our current midfield options.

The 27-year-old would also instantly solve our issues when it comes to set-piece delivery and direct free-kicks. However, I do not expect us to push hard for Martinez as other Premier League clubs arguably need a player of the Argentine’s profile more than we do.
