Journalist claims Spurs-linked star could still transfer despite new contract

According to journalist Dean Jones at GiveMeSport, Tottenham Hotspur target Jordan Pickford may still leave Everton, despite recently signing a new contract with the club.

Pickford has been with Everton for approaching six years now, having joined the Merseyside club from Sunderland in the summer of 2017.

He now has 223 appearances for Everton (Transfermarkt) and is regarded as one of their most important players.

The England goalkeeper’s future with Everton has been thrown into doubt over the last few months, as Tottenham Hotspur reportedly have the 28-year-old on their shortlist to replace Hugo Lloris at the end of the season (Daily Mail).

Lloris, now 36 years old, appears to be nearing the end of his career, at least with Tottenham (Daily Mail). It is thought that Pickford is a prime target for Spurs as he could come in and become the number one for the next five years (The Sun).

However, Pickford has recently put pen to paper on a new four-and-a-half-year deal with Everton (Sky Sports), which was thought to have put an end to any speculation he would leave the club.

Nevertheless, Jones claims that if Everton lose their fight against relegation this season, Pickford may still move on in the summer, though he is unsure whether the player would turn his back on the Toffees.

He said: “Yeah, I think it’s a really big boost [Pickford signing the new contract].

“I mean, obviously, if they went down, I would still have an expectation he would leave, but to be honest, even when there have been links to other clubs, there’s been no inclination that he wasn’t still committed to Everton.

“He seems very loyal and now, with Dyche in at the club, I’m probably leaning towards the fact that Pickford will stay.”

As England’s number one keeper, you would have to imagine Pickford would want to be playing in the top flight.

He may not want to leave Everton, but his hand would be forced somewhat if Everton did get relegated.
