Journalist claims Spurs man could complete deadline day loan move to Spain

Football.London’s Alasdair Gold has claimed on social media that Paulo Gazzaniga could be on his way to Spanish club Elche before the transfer window shuts tonight.

Gazzaniga impressed when he filled in for Hugo Lloris over the last two seasons but he has not played a single minute this campaign after falling down to third choice since the arrival of Joe Hart in the summer.

The Argentine’s prospects of getting game time at Spurs were not helped by the fact that Jose Mourinho chose to leave him out of the club’s Europa League squad for the group stages, due to the issues with meeting the foreign-trained players criteria.

The Evening Standard reported this morning that the out-of-favour goalkeeper was looking to seal a deadline day move to Spain.

Gold has now said that Elche, who currently sit 19th in La Liga, could snap up the 29-year-old on a loan deal until the end of the season, with the two clubs currently in talks.

A loan move to Elche will be a positive one for Gazzaniga as he can potentially put himself in the shop window for the summer if he does well until the end of the season.

However, it might put us in a precarious position if one of either Lloris or Hart gets injured as Alfie Whiteman does not have enough experience for Mourinho to be able to count on him if necessary.
