Journalist claims Spurs ‘simply can’t turn down’ opportunity to sign 30-year-old

Journalist Dean Jones has claimed that the chance to sign Chrisitan Eriksen on a free transfer is too good for Tottenham Hotspur to turn down this summer.

It remains to be seen what the future holds for Eriksen when his six-month contract with Brentford runs out this summer.

Tottenham are thought to be keen on bringing the Denmark international back to the club this summer (90min) but it has been reported that the 30-year-old’s priority is to first sit down with Bretford to listen to their proposal (Que Golazo Podcast).

Bees boss Thomas Frank has insisted that there is ‘a very good chance’ of the attacking midfielder remaining at the club next season (BBC Sport).

In addition to Spurs, the likes of Newcastle United (Northern Echo), Manchester United (Daily Star) and Leicester City (Fabrizio Romano) are also said to be keen on landing the former Inter Milan man.

Jones believes that Spurs should not think twice about signing Eriksen on a free transfer despite the negative history associated with players returning to their former clubs.

He told GiveMeSport: “There’s a general rule in football that is don’t go back, but in this sense, Eriksen can be a rule breaker because he’s ridiculous and this isn’t your normal situation that has opened up.

“Eriksen being available as a free agent is an opportunity you simply can’t turn down.”

Spurs Web Opinion

If it were up to Conte and Spurs, I believe they would be more than happy to offer Eriksen a contract as we do need to add an attacking midfielder to the squad to give the Italian the option of deploying a 3-5-2 if needed.

However, I am not convinced that Eriksen will be too keen to return to Tottenham as he would likely be prioritising regular game time. He might have doubts over whether he would get that under Conte at Spurs.
