Journalist claims Spurs star has said ‘yes’ to transfer

Spanish journalist Eduardo Inda has told El Chiringuito (as relayed by Sport Witness) that Sergio Reguilon is ready to return to Real Madrid in the summer after just a year at Tottenham.

Reguilon hit the ground running as soon as he arrived in North London and has proven to be an outstanding addition for Jose Mourinho’s men.

The left-back, who is currently out with an injury, has displayed his searing pace and his brilliant left foot, having already registered five assists so far this season.

Real Madrid inserted a buy-back clause in the 24-year-old’s contract when they sold him to Spurs in the summer, with the La Liga giants having the option of activating the clause until the summer of 2022.

Previous reports suggested that Los Blancos are unlikely to activate the clause due to their financial constraints while the Spanish international’s strained relationship with Zinedine Zidane was also said to be a hindrance to his potential return.

However, Inda has now claimed that Los Blancos have sounded out Reguilon about a possible return to the club and the Tottenham man has said ‘yes’.

Spurs Web Opinion

Spurs fans should not kid themselves by thinking Reguilon will reject Real Madrid if he is happy at Tottenham. The reality is that Real Madrid are the 24-year-old’s boyhood club and I am sure that deep down, he will want to prove that he can be a regular starter for the club. Our best chance of hanging on to the left-back is to hope that Zidane stays at Madrid for the next couple of years as the Frenchman does not seem to be a fan of the defender.
