Journalist claims Spurs summer signing is in limbo and has ‘no obvious position’

Journalist Dean Jones has argued that Richarlison does not fit into Tottenham’s starting eleven in any position at the moment.

Tottenham paid £60m to snap up Richarlison from Everton last summer but the winger has not quite hit the ground running in North London, having had an injury-hit campaign so far.

The 25-year-old has five goal contributions to his name across all competitions in 2022-23 and will be hoping to stay fit and play a much more prominent role in the months to come.

While Harry Kane, Son Heung-min and Dejan Kulusevski seem to be Antonio Conte’s first-choice front three, the Brazilian now has even more competition to contend with after the arrival of Arnaut Danjuma on loan in January plus the return of Lucas Moura from his injury.

With Spurs still in three competitions, there is likely to be plenty of minutes to go around for their forwards this season but Jones believes that it is up to Richarlison to somehow force his way into the team.

The journalist told GiveMeSport: “I think that, ultimately, they’ve got to figure out where Richarlison fits into this Tottenham team. There’s no obvious position for him at the moment, and I think that’s going to be something that he needs to figure out as he tries to force his way in there.”

Richarlison has not had any issues getting game time when he is fit. In fact, Conte even started him ahead of Kulusevski on the right early in the season.

With the Champions League about to restart, the Spurs boss will need to rotate his side and I see the Brazilian being a very useful asset at the business end of the campaign.
