Journalist claims Spurs talks over potential incoming loan are not at advanced stage

Italian journalist Matteo Moretto has confirmed that Barcelona have offered Clement Lenglet to Tottenham and Juventus, but negotiations are not currently at an advanced stage, despite some reports.

Spurs are expected to be on the hunt for a left-sided centre-back this summer with Antonio Conte identifying the position as a key area of his squad that needs addressing (The Athletic).

Spanish outlet Esport3 reported earlier this week that Lenglet has emerged as the latest name to appear on the club’s transfer radar, with an agreement for a two-year loan deal thought to be in progress.

The 26-year-old endured a tough season for Barcelona and fell out of favour under Xavi, starting just seven of his 21 outings in LaLiga this term (Transfermarkt).

And Moretto solidifies Tottenham’s interest in Lenglet, claiming the Blaugrana have now offered him to the Premier League side.

The journalist went on to state that Lenglet has also been proposed to Italian giants Juventus, while adding an agreement with either side is not close to being reached at present.

Lenglet joined Barcelona from Sevilla in 2018 and secured a regular starting role at the club in his first few seasons before falling by the wayside.

The France international, who has been capped 15 times for his country, is contracted with the Catalan-based club until the summer of 2026 (Transfermarkt).

Spurs Web Opinion

Lenglet might not appear to be a main priority for Spurs over the summer but he could be someone they could turn to if they need reinforcements.

He is a left-sided defender and they are after someone who can fit that role, while it looks like he will be available for a relatively modest price tag.
