Journalist claims Spurs target has temporary £4.3m buyout clause in contract

Italian journalist Valter De Maggio has revealed that Turkish starlet Arda Guler, who is wanted by Tottenham, could be available for just €5m (£4.3m) owing to an interesting clause in his contract.

Guler has scored six times and provided another six assists in 29 appearances for Fenerbahce since breaking into the club’s senior side. (Transfermarkt).

Although the teenager is yet to establish himself as a regular in the Turkish giants’ starting eleven, he is already thought to be attracting interest from several big hitters around Europe.

Radio Kiss Kiss Napoli (17/11/22 as relayed by Tutto Napoli) reported last week that Tottenham, Paris Saint-Germain and Napoli were all eyeing moves for the attacking midfielder.

The report added that the 17-year-old was particularly liked by the Napoli hierarchy and that the Serie A giants were plotting a move for the player next summer.

The interest of the aforementioned clubs in Guler has now been backed up by De Maggio, who revealed that the youngster would be available for just €5m (£4.3m) until he plays 1500 minutes for Fenerbahce.

The journalist told Radio Goal (21/11/22 as relayed by Area Napoli and Sport Witness): “Guler is an interesting player, he’s doing really well and followed by Cristiano Giuntoli.

“Now I’ll give you other details. On the player, there are two other top clubs: PSG and Tottenham. He was offered to Napoli in the past.

“There is currently a pending variable release clause in the player’s contract. If he plays less than 1500 minutes with Fenerbahçe, the clause will be €5m (£4.3m). If it goes above 1500 minutes, it will go up to €20m (£17.3m). At Napoli, there are reflecting on this.”

If such a clause exists, the interested clubs will likely look to snap up Guler in January as he is likely to have played the requisite 1500 minutes before next summer.

If Spurs do push ahead with a move for the 17-year-old, I would not be surprised if they loaned him back out to Fenerbahce so that he can continue his development at the Turkish club.
