Journalist claims Spurs think attacker is ‘overpriced’ despite ‘genuine’ interest

Journalist Dean Jones has claimed that Tottenham have a genuine interest in Angers sensation Mohamed-Ali Cho but think the forward is overpriced.

Journalist Pete O’Rourke claimed earlier this week that Tottenham were in talks over a deal for Ali Cho, who has hit the limelight since breaking into the Angers first-team last season.

Sky Sports subsequently even suggested that the North London club had made an offer for the 18-year-old, who can play anywhere across the front-line.

Spurs are also thought to be facing competition from Chelsea and Southampton for the France Under-21 international (The Sun).

However, according to Foot Mercato’s recent update, it is Leicester City who are now the front-runners to snap up Ali Cho.

The Foxes have allegedly sent representatives to France to try and hammer out a deal with Angers for the forward before Monday’s transfer deadline.

Jones believes that Ali Cho will prove a useful addition for Antonio Conte’s men but revealed that the Lilywhites do not wish to meet Angers’ asking price.

The journalist told The Done Deal Show on Football Terrace’s YouTube Channel: “There was the link yesterday to Mohamed-Ali Cho, the forward from Angers. That interest is 100 per cent genuine.

“They really like the player and they’re looking to do a deal there. From a Tottenham point of view, they feel he’s slightly overvalued from what I’m told.

“Angers want around £20m, and they’re trying to negotiate around that and haggle it.

“He’s young, he’s not a player who will change your season, but he could change games and he can play in a two-man attack or he can play off a main forward. He’d be kind of a Son-like figure.”

£20m certainly seems a steep asking price for a player who has had a good 12 months. While Ali Cho still has plenty of time to develop, there are no guarantees that he will succeed in the Premier League. Besides, Tottenham certainly have bigger fish to fry before Monday’s transfer deadline.
