Journalist claims Spurs will look to complete deal for defender this evening

CalcioMercato journalist Daniele Longo has claimed that Tottenham will look to finalise a deal for Cristian Romero this evening.

After weeks of deadlock in the negotiations between Atalanta and Spurs for Romero, it looks as though there has finally been a breakthrough today.

Football.London’s Alasdair Gold was the first to report this morning that Spurs were closing in on the 23-year-old after agreeing on a fee of around £42.7m for the centre-back.

He claimed that Tottenham were confident of getting the deal over the line once Atalanta secure a replacement.

This was soon backed up by TuttoMercatoWEb, who claimed that Romero was edging ‘closer and closer’ to Spurs, with only ‘the last details’ left to be sorted in the transfer.

The report, however, suggested that the fee agreed between the two clubs is expected to be in the region of €57m including bonuses (£48.7m).

Longo has now given a further cause of optimism for Spurs fans by revealing that the Lilywhites could finalise the deal as early as this evening.
