Journalist claims Spurs will spend ‘bulk’ of remaining budget on one position

According to talkSPORT journalist Alex Crook, Tottenham Hotspur are expected to spend the bulk of their remaining transfer budget on a centre-back this summer.

Tottenham have already made four signings so far this summer in the form of Ivan Perisic, Fraser Forster, Yves Bissouma and Richarlison.

It appears as if the North London club are close to completing a couple more additions if reports over recent days are to be believed.

Antonio Conte’s men are said to be working out the final details with Barcelona over a loan deal for Clement Lenglet (Fabrizio Romano) while some publications have suggested that they are close to signing Djed Spence from Middlesbrough (Daily Mail).

However, the Spence deal appears to be a little further off than the Lenglet one, with Alasdair Gold stating on his YouTube channel over the weekend that negotiations between Spurs and Boro are still not complete.

Crook has now said that he expects Tottenham to conclude a deal for Spence and suggested that the Lilywhites are also likely to spend big to sign another central defender from the Serie A, with Fabio Paratici having met with various agents.

The journalist told GiveMeSport: “I think it’s a centre-back they want because he wants to play with a back three with Djed Spence and Perisic might play as a left wing-back.

“So, I think the bulk of the cash will go on a central defender. We know that Fabio Paratici has been meeting various agents in Italy, so I would imagine it would be a centre-back from Serie A, possibly one of the names we’ve heard about already.”

I do expect the Spence and Lenglet deals to be concluded within the next few days. While I believe Spurs will sign another centre-back of Gleison Bremer’s profile, potentially to replace Davison Sanchez, I do not think they will spend big on the signing.

I suspect that Richarlison will comfortably be Tottenham’s most expensive buy of the summer. I would not be surprised if Paratici has decided to keep the powder dry in order to try again for Bastoni or Gvardiol in January or next summer.
