Journalist claims Spurs won’t end interest in Bastoni but will move on to other targets

The Daily Express journalist Ryan Taylor has claimed that Tottenham Hotspur are now ready to turn their attentions to alternatives to Inter Milan’s Alessandro Bastoni.

Bastoni’s agent Tullio Tinti said following a meeting with the Inter hierarchy last week that his client would be staying put at the San Siro (Football Italia).

However, according to The Athletic’s Jack Pitt-Brooke, Tinti’s statement might not mean that Spurs’ pursuit of the 23-year-old is over, with the journalist suggesting that Inter could change their stance later in the transfer window.

Football.London’s Alasdair Gold has also said Tottenham have not yet admitted defeat when it comes to Bastoni but added that it would take ‘a drastic change in circumstances’ for a move to go through this summer.

Jones has revealed that Inter are prioritising selling Milan Skriniar and Denzel Dumfries over the Italy international this summer. He suggested that while Antonio Conte’s men have not ended their interest in Bastoni, they are now ready to explore other alternatives.

The journalist told GiveMeSport: “I think the players that will make way [at Inter] will be Milan Skriniar and Denzel Dumfries. That seems to be the suggestion, which is interesting because Dumfries has obviously been really good since joining.

“I do think now Spurs will move on to other targets, but I don’t think they’ll end their interest in Bastoni. He remains a player the board unanimously agree on.”

Given that Conte would want his main targets to be signed before the start of pre-season, one would expect Spurs to turn their attention to other left-sided centre-backs. I would not be surprised if Pau Torres is the man Tottenham turn to, given that Fabio Paratici tried in vain to bring the Spaniard to Spurs last summer.
