Journalist claims Spurs would have to pay £12m to sign 19-year-old target

CBS Sports journalist Ben Jacobs has revealed that Tottenham would have to pay £12m to sign Bristol City starlet Alex Scott during the summer transfer window.

The versatile Scott caught people’s eye after breaking into Bristol’s starting eleven last season, excelling at both central midfield and right wing-back.

Tottenham were heavily linked with a move for the teenager during last summer’s transfer window (Football Insider) but the youngster ended up staying at Ashton Gate Stadium and his stock has risen even further over the last six months in light of his impressive displays.

Bournemouth were credited with an interest in Scott last month (The Sunday Mirror – print edition – 18/12 pg. 68) while The Telegraph revealed recently that as many as half a dozen Premier League clubs are eyeing a move for the Bristol man this month.

Jacobs has now taken to social media to name Spurs among the list of five clubs who are tracking Scott, and stated that Nigel Pearson’s men value the England Under-20s international at £12m.

Scott’s decision on his destination will likely be based on the team whose system will suit him and one where he is likely to get regular first-team opportunities. That likely rules out a move to the Spurs as the 19-year-old might be put off by the struggles of Djed Spence to get game time since his summer switch.
