Journalist claims teenager wanted by Spurs is ‘similar to Cristiano Ronaldo’

Argentine journalist Rodolfo Cingolani has paid rumoured Tottenham target, Julian Alvarez, the biggest possible compliment by revealing the youngster reminds him of Cristiano Ronaldo.

Alvarez has been on fire at the start of the new campaign, having scored 10 goals and registered four assists in just 12 appearances in the Argentine top-flight.

The versatile forward, who can play through the middle or in either flank, is allegedly interesting the likes of Tottenham, AC Milan, Bayer Leverkusen, Borussia Dortmund, Aston Villa, and Sevilla ahead of the January transfer window.

TYC Sport reported earlier this month that the 21-year-old could be sold in January as River Plate might find it difficult to extend his contract.

Bayer Leverkusen are thought to be leading the race for the forward, who was valued at €25m (£21.3m) by River Plate (Calciomercato).

Cingolani has said now compared the youngster’s knack for goals and his shooting ability with that of Ronaldo.

The journalist said: “I see things very similar to Cristiano Ronaldo in Julian Alvarez.

“He hits the ball like (Ronaldo), not everyone can do this. He heads the ball, scores goals from free-kicks.”

While Alvarez is evidently a very talented player, there is always a risk associated with singing players straight from South America before they are proven in Europe.

However, given our struggles over recent years to find a suitable backup to Kane, perhaps signing a young, up and coming striker is the way to go.
