Journalist claims there is still a chance Spurs could sign winger after talks today

Journalist Simon Phillips has claimed there is still a chance that Tottenham could wrap up a deal for Chelsea winger Hakim Ziyech before the transfer window shuts at 11 pm.

Ziyech is thought to be on Tottenham’s radar, with The Times reporting last week that Chelsea had offered the winger to their London rivals.

Relevo claimed yesterday that Spurs were eyeing a late deal for the Moroccan international and have started negotiations with the Blues for the player.

The report added that the North London club are ‘on track’ to agreeing personal terms with the 29-year-old.

Despite Ajax also showing interest in re-signing the winger, Antonio Conte’s men were said to be confident they could beat the Eredivisie giants to the player’s signature.

Phillips has now said that Spurs have held talks with Chelsea today regarding Ziyech and that a move could materialise if the Blues sign a replacement.

The journalist told GiveMeSport: “There is a chance, but Chelsea want a permanent deal.

“And they have been in talks with Tottenham today over Ziyech, and there’s definitely a chance that could happen.

“But it all depends on Chelsea getting that second attacker as well. So, it’s kind of a domino effect on that one.”

With Bryan Gil sending a cryptic message hinting that he is staying, it appears pretty unlikely that Spurs will sign an attacker. If Ziyech was going to come through the door, the club would have given the green light for Gil to join Valencia on loan.
