Journalist claims this is the reason why Poch changed his mind about England man

Tottenham Hotspur were heavily linked with signing Ross Barkley from Everton back in the summer of 2017 (Independent).

After it became clear that Barkley was not going to sign a new deal at his current club, the likes of Spurs and Chelsea quickly began to circle.

It looked as if he would leave that summer, but the Everton midfielder ended up staying until January, after turning up at Chelsea’s training ground before leaving again.

This strange change of heart almost seemed like a lifeline gifted to Spurs to have another go at signing him in January.

However, Ross did eventually sign for the blues come the winter for £15m (BBC), but has only just started playing a regular first team role in London.

Football London claim that Daniel Levy was ready and willing to shell out the reduced price for Barkley until Pochettino pulled a plug on the idea.

The Argentine boss decided he had other targets he would rather spend his money on, and dropped all interest in the England midfielder.

Spurs would go on to spend £23m on Lucas Moura (BBC), which is without a doubt a stroke of genius.
