Journalist claims Tottenham are now leading the race to sign Serie A star

Sport Italia journalist Rudy Galetti has claimed that Tottenham Hotspur are leading the race to sign AC Milan midfielder Franck Kessie on a free transfer in the summer.

Kessie is now into the final six months of his contract at Milan and previous reports indicated Antonio Conte wants the Ivory Coast international at Tottenham.

Gazzetta dello Sport claimed this week that Kessie is yet to receive a January offer from any other club and the midfielder could put pen to paper on a new contract at the San Siro.

However, Galetti has now poured cold water over that speculation, insisting that Milan’s contract offer is still a long way off what Kessie is demanding.

The journalist alleged that Spurs have offered the Milan star a €10m per year (£8.3m) deal including bonuses.

Despite interest from Paris Saint-Germain and another unnamed Premier League club in Kessie, Galtetti adds that Tottenham are the favourites to snap up the player.

Spurs Web Opinion

I believe Kessie will be a very good fit for Conte’s system and will thrive in the Premier League. However, there could well be a lot of twists and turns in this saga before the summer transfer window. I would expect more clubs to enter the race should the 25-yea-old be available on a free transfer.
