Journalist claims Tottenham could be ‘perfect destination’ for 24-year-old striker

Gianluca Di Marzio has claimed Tottenham would be a good fit for Inter Milan striker Lautaro Martinez.

Spurs reportedly attempted to sign the 24-year-old during the transfer window last summer (Sky Sports) but saw their attempts come to no avail.

But Antonio Conte’s side could revisit their pursuit of Martinez at the end of the season, with Tuttosport reporting the chief Fabio Paratici is a fan of the Argentine.

It has been reported that Atletico Madrid are also interested in Martinez, although are currently stumbling at Inter’s reported £60 million valuation (Mundo Deportivo).

And Italian journalist Di Marzio has since explained that both Spurs and Atleti would be ‘perfect destinations’ for him, but he does indeed prefer a move to Spain instead.

He told German publication Wettfreunde: “I think Tottenham will take care of Lautaro because they wanted him last summer.

“They want another striker to play with [Harry] Kane or plan for the future without Kane. Lautaro Martinez is one of the players Fabio Paratici loves.

“I think it could be the summer of Lautaro and Atlético Madrid or Tottenham could be the perfect destinations for him.

“But I know he would like to go to Madrid. He is happy at Inter and was convinced of his contract extension. But if he had to choose another club, this would be Atlético Madrid with Simeone.”

Spurs Web Opinion

The Martinez rumours seem to have returned and after last summer’s antics, it is likely that Spurs will at least be involved again.

They do need another striker to at least support Kane, but it will be difficult to try and grab someone of Martinez’s quality as he needs to be playing every game.

Plus the fact he has allegedly placed Atletico as his preferred destination will make it even more tricky for Spurs too.
