Journalist claims Tottenham could target La Liga forward with £17m offer

Tottenham could target Barcelona forward Memphis Depay and are allegedly planning to make a £17 million offer for the Dutchman, according to Ekrem Konur.

The journalist reports Antonio Conte’s side are readying a bid worth £17m for the former Lyon man, who is entering the final year of his contract with the Blaugrana (Transfermarkt).

Depay joined Barcelona last summer on a free transfer but endured a mixed campaign as he was used sparingly by Xavi after he replaced Ronald Koeman midway through the season.

And the Netherlands international’s place in Catalonia may already be coming under threat with Barca continuing to add strength in depth to their attack throughout the transfer window.

They have agreed a deal to sign Leeds winger Raphinha (The Athletic) and recently announced a two-year contract extension for Ousmane Dembélé, but are also plugging away for a deal to sign Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski (Sky Sports).

The aforementioned names would supplement already settled forwards Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Ferran Torres, which could leave Xavi with a bloated squad to deal with.

Depay at that price would be a good addition for Spurs and it seems fairly realistic with him entering the last year of his contract.

But it may not be something they would pursue having brought in Richarlison for a big fee and having a handful of other fringe forwards already.
