Journalist claims Tottenham defender is now available for sale in January

According to journalist Dean Jones for GiveMeSport, Tottenham Hotspur have made defender Emerson Royal available for transfer this month, but will only let him go for a suitable fee.

Royal signed for Tottenham Hotspur from Barcelona last summer for a fee of around £26m (Sky Sports) but he has failed to live up to expectations since and it appears his days at the club are numbered.

The Brazilian enjoyed a successful spell with Real Betis previously, making 79 appearances for the La Liga side, scoring five goals and providing ten assists (Transfermarkt) and impressing many with his full-back displays over a two-and-a-half year period.

Brought in as a full-back under Nuno Espirito Santo, Royal has since been forced to adapt to a wing-back role under Antonio Conte and things just haven’t clicked for him in that new position.

It’s believed Conte is keen to bring in a new right wing-back (90 Min) for his squad, which means one of his current options will need to leave north London. For Royal, Matt Doherty, and Djed Spence, the future is currently uncertain.

However, all signs now point to Royal being the one to go it seems. It has previously been reported that Spurs would listen to offers for the 23-year-old after an alleged training ground bust-up involving Royal and a member of the coaching staff (FootballInsider).

Now, Jones has confirmed Royal will be the one to go, but insists the club will not let him leave unless their valuation is met.

He said: “[Royal] is available, but it’s only going to happen at the right price and you need a club to come into the picture. I don’t yet know if that will happen, especially to a degree and a level that suits Tottenham.”

We heard that Inter Milan were keen on taking Emerson Royal off our hands, so hopefully they come through and make a suitable offer. It just hasn’t worked out for Royal here, so it’s best for everyone if he moves on and then we can find a player better suited to our needs.
