Journalist claims Tottenham interest in £50m-rated forward is ‘exaggerated’

Journalist Paul Brown has claimed Tottenham’s interest in Everton forward Richarlison has been ‘exaggerated’ but he expects a number of other clubs to enter the pursuit.

The Toffees are thought to be ready to listen to offers for the Brazil international and are demanding upwards of £50 million for a sale this summer (Daily Mail).

Spurs have reportedly emerged as one of the most interested parties in acquiring the 25-year-old (The Athletic) but have been joined in the chase by London rivals Arsenal and Chelsea (UOL).

But according to Brown, the North London club’s current stance regarding Richarlison may have been slightly overblown.

The journalist explains that Richarlison’s entourage are pushing for him to leave Goodison Park with Tottenham’s interest said to be ‘exaggerated’ at present.

It is also noted that Chelsea have not named the striker as their first choice target and Arsenal continue to have close ties with his representatives, while more clubs could emerge in the chase.

Richarlison joined Everton from Watford in 2018 and has taken up a talisman role at the Merseyside-based club. He scored 10 goals in the Premier League last term (Transfermarkt) and became a key figure in the club’s fight against relegation.

Even though plenty of business has been done, it is still pretty early days in terms of the transfer window being open.

It is also not too surprising that Spurs haven’t had concrete interest in Richarlison given how valuable he is to Everton, so they are likely evaluating their options before making a move.
