Journalist claims Tottenham player is about to join La Liga side

TYC Sports journalist, Gaston Edul, has reported that Giovani Lo Celso is about to join Villarreal from Tottenham.

Lo Celso was left out of every single one of Tottenham’s pre-season friendly squads this summer, and also missed out on the team that faced Southampton this weekend.

After Antonio Conte reportedly marked him as dispensable (Daily Mail), Spurs started to actively attempt to find an exit for the Argentine midfielder (Tom Barclay vis GiveMeSport).

Lo Celso spent the second half of last season on loan with Villarreal and impressed on a surprising run to the Champions League semi-finals with the Yellow Submarine.

Journalist Matteo Moretto reported today that there had been new contacts between Villarreal and Spurs, with a full agreement over Lo Celso expected to be found.

This has now been reinforced by Edul, who claims the midfielder is about to rejoin the La Liga club, just as the season gets underway.

This comes after Marca reported recently that Villarreal made an offer that involved an initial loan deal and a €15m (£12.5m) obligation to buy.

Spurs Web Opinion:

This always seemed like the sensible and likely move for Lo Celso this summer after his impressive loan spell. To be honest, I have been surprised by the low fees being mentioned. I thought someone would jump to take him at £20m this summer, especially as he is so tried and tested in La Liga. But perhaps COVID-19 is playing a part financially.
