Journalist claims two other PL clubs also want Spurs-linked defender

Tottenham Hotspur had better move fast if they want to snap up Sebastian Caceres, as Premier League rivals Newcastle United and Aston Villa have now joined the list of potential suitors for the centre-half.

The squad depth at Tottenham is being severely tested right now, especially in the defensive areas. Ange Postecoglou is now without Micky van de Ven until the New Year, and has Cristian Romero out due to suspension.

Suffice it to say, that signing a new centre-back in January is now a top priority for the Lilywhites.

Uruguayan defender, Sebastian Caceres, has been named as one of Tottenham’s targets for that position (90 Min).

With the player’s contract running down into its final year, It’s said Spurs had sent a £3.5m offer to Club America for Caceres but his current club rejected the offer and are holding out for around £7m (Fernando Ezquivel).

Tottenham aren’t alone in Caceres pursuit

Spurs will have to press on with their pursuit of Caceres and meet Club America’s demands quickly, because other clubs are now circling the 24-year-old.

That’s according to Mike McGrath, who said: “Uruguay centre-back Sebastián Cáceres is on the radar of Europe’s top clubs after wins vs Argentina + others. Premier League clubs looking at position (Spurs, Newcastle, Villa) aware of his contract situation at Club América in Mexico – one year left.”

Caceres has recently impressed on international duty, keeping two clean sheets as Uruguay secured wins over world champions Argentina, and Bolivia, during World Cup qualifiers.

Spurs Web Opinion

I knew this was going to happen. When a player with as much quality and potential as Caceres is available for such a small price tag, there’s bound to be a queue to sign him. We have to get this one over the line as soon as possible and beat the competition.
