Journalist claims West Ham now front-runners for defender linked to Spurs

Telefoot journalist Julien Maynard has claimed that West Ham United are currently leading the race for rumoured Tottenham Hotspur target Kurt Zouma.

Spurs have already snapped up Cristian Romero from Atalanta this summer but some sources have indicated that Nuno Espirito Santo is keen on more defensive reinforcements before the transfer window slams shut.

However, Football.London’s Alasdair Gold revealed last week that Tottenham would first have to move one of their central defenders on before signing another one.

One of the centre-backs who is alleged to be on Spurs’ radar is Zouma, who has fallen down the pecking order under Thomas Tuchel at Chelsea.

The Telegraph reported a few days ago that Tottenham could move for Zouma, triggering Chelsea to complete a deal for Jules Kounde and Sevilla to then snap up Sanchez as Kounde’s replacement.

Maynard has now stated that while Spurs remain interested in Zouma, it is the Hammers who ‘are the most advanced’ in their pursuit of the French defender.

Spurs Web Opinion

I would rather keep Sanchez than signing Zouma as the Chelsea defender has similar frailties to the Colombian. Given the way Sanchez has started the season, I do think Nuno might give the 24-year-old a chance this season.
