Journalist claims young World Cup star is ‘definitely on Tottenham’s list’

Journalist Paul Brown is confident that Tottenham are continuing to eye a move for Josko Gvardiol but explained that the North London club will face quite a bit of competition for the RB Leipzig star.

Tottenham and Chelsea were both linked with a move for Gvardiol during the summer transfer window (Calciomercato.it) but neither club managed to lure him away from the Red Bull Arena.

Tuttosport revealed last week that the two London clubs continue to be at the front of the queue for the 20-year-old’s signature ahead of the January transfer window.

The report explained that Juventus are also eyeing a move for Gvardiol and are keeping a close eye on how he performs at the World Cup.

The Leipzig star has put in two solid displays in Qatar so far, with Croatia having played out a 0-0 draw with Morocco before thrashing Canada 4-1.

Brown has now asserted that there is likely to be a massive bidding war for the centre-back, who he claimed is wanted by four or five other clubs apart from Spurs.

The journalist told GiveMeSport about Gvardiol: “He’s definitely on Tottenham’s list. The trouble is, he’s on the list of about four or five other very big clubs who are all Champions League regulars.

“I think this one is really going to depend on who makes the first move, whether that’s in January or in the summer. I would expect to see a bidding war, depending on how big the first bid that goes in is.”

Spurs Web Opinion

If Leipzig do decide to sell Gvardiol in January, the likes of Chelsea will be able to steal a march on Spurs because Antonio Conte’s men are not likely to be on the lookout for a left-sided centre-back in January.

Even if the Croat is at the top of Tottenham’s wishlist, I doubt the North London club would decide to pay extra to land him in January, when they could instead pursue the likes of Alessandro Bastoni and Piero Hincapie next summer.
