Journalist comments on Tottenham’s chances of re-signing Gareth Bale again

Dean Jones believes Gareth Bale’s emotional attachment with Tottenham could hand the club a potential advantage in signing him this summer.

Bale spent last season on loan at Spurs from Real Madrid after securing a sensational return to the club he departed in 2013.

After a strong campaign in which he scored 16 goals, his return to the Spanish capital has not gone as well, with Bale having been limited to just five appearances in total under Carlo Ancelotti (Transfermarkt).

The 32-year-old is also expected to become a free agent at the end of the season with Madrid not planning to renew terms with the Welshman (Daily Mail).

As such, Spurs are said to be interested in picking Bale up for a third time with CalcioMercato reporting Antonio Conte’s side have already secured a pre-contract agreement with the winger.

And Jones feels the player’s previous history with Tottenham could put the club in the driving seat to secure a free transfer at the end of term.

He told GiveMeSport: “I think one thing in their favour, if they did want him back, is it seems to be that it’s emotion and passion that is motivating Bale at this point. The performance he managed to pull out the bag for Wales was incredible.

“And I don’t think there’ll be many clubs right now that interest Gareth Bale. I think Tottenham is probably one of literally a couple.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Tottenham should definitely keep their options open for Bale if he does become available in the summer, particularly as we saw what he could do in very limited time last season.

It is a bit congested towards the front of the field at Spurs, but you can’t really overlook a player of his calibre as a free transfer.
