Journalist compares Tottenham youngster to Ibrahimovic after recent showing

Lucas Bergvall continues to get plenty of plaudits back in his home country, with the youngster now likened to Sweden’s biggest-ever superstar Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

Tottenham have pulled off some outstanding young signings over the last few years, managing to snare the likes of Destiny Udogie and Pape Mater Sarr before they really established a reputation as stars at the highest level.

The early signs are that the Lilywhites have managed to do the same with Bergvall, who continues to turn heads with his performances back in Sweden.

The youngster, who will link up with Ange Postecoglou’s squad ahead of the start of next season, produced another sensational showing for Djurgardens in the 5-0 win over United Nordic in the Svenksa Cup clash on Sunday.

The 18-year-old netted a brace, with his second goal being a thing of absolute beauty. Bergvall ran more than half the length of the pitch, and dribbled past six players before calmly wrong-footing the goalkeeper and turning the ball into an empty net.

Following Djurgardens’ 5-0 win, pundit Peter Backe told Expressen about the Tottenham man’s goal: “The last little trick brings to mind a certain Zlatan Ibrahimovic”, with the commentator describing the goal as the goal as “incredible.”

Many in Sweden appear to be convinced that Bergvall is a generational talent but we should not be getting carried away as not all wonderkids go on to fulfil their potential. The teenager will likely need some time to adapt to the intensity of English football when he arrives in the summer.
