Journalist confident Spurs man would like Juventus return ‘sooner or later’

Italian journalist and commentator Francesco Oppini believes that Antonio Conte is nailed on to return to Juventus in the future as the Spurs boss considers the Serie A giants to be his home.

Conte’s current contract at Tottenham runs until the end of the season and although the North London club have the option to extend the Italian’s deal (Alasdair Gold on his YouTube channel), there has been plenty of speculation about his future over recent months.

Italian publications have continued to insist that a return to Juventus is on the cards for the 53-year-old next summer.

The print edition of Gazzetta dello Sport (28/10/22 as relayed by Sport Witness) stated last month that Conte is Juve’s number one target to replace Massimiliano Allegri at the end of the season and that he would ‘hardly say no’ if the Serie A giants came calling.

However, some reports in the British press over recent weeks have suggested that Spurs remain ‘confident’ the former Inter Milan boss will commit his future to the club (The Athletic).

Oppini believes that Conte will eventually return to the Allianz Stadium but suggested that Juve cannot afford to waste time trying to bring him back next summer if he is not keen on taking over.

When asked if the Tottenham boss could return to the Old Lady, he told JuventusNews24: “I see it’s possible.

“From the knowledge I have, I know that Antonio considers Juve his home and sooner or later he would like to come back.

“But if you waste time without making a contract for you right away for next year, we risk remaining in the same situation.”

It should become clear over the course of the next month if Conte indeed commits himself to the Spurs project. The Italian will hold talks with the Tottenham hierarchy during the World Cup and if he does not sign a new deal, that would be a sign that the parties are not all on the same page.
