Journalist confirms Bastoni is likely to remain at Inter Milan despite their need to sell

Alessandro Bastoni is likely to remain at Inter Milan beyond the summer amid strong transfer interest from Tottenham, according to journalist Jacque Talbot.

Spurs have targeted the 23-year-old extensively in recent weeks having identified him as an ideal candidate to bolster their options at left centre-back (Football.London).

Their pursuit has seemingly taken a hit though, after Bastoni’s agent Tullio Tinti confirmed his client would be staying at Inter after holding talks with the club’s hierarchy (Football Italia).

However, Spurs have reportedly not given up on the chase with CalcioMercatoWeb claiming they are ready to offer over £25 million plus centre-back Davinson Sanchez to the Nerazzurri.

But Talbot has now confirmed Bastoni will likely remain at the San Siro with Inter keen to keep him in spite of needing to offload players this summer.

Bastoni featured prominently under current Tottenham head coach Antonio Conte during Inter’s Serie A-winning campaign in 2020-21.

The Italy international made 44 appearances last term (Transfermarkt) as they finished runners-up to rivals AC Milan.

This is a bit disappointing for Spurs given Bastoni would be the perfect acquisition for the club and Conte’s system. However, there is plenty of time remaining to get a player in and a lot of names out there that can fill that void.
