Ben Jacobs has confirmed that Bryan Gil has indeed been a topic of conversation internally at Brentford.
Gil has had loan spells at Valencia and Sevilla over the last few years and he now looks set to make a temporary move away from the North London side for the third season running if reports over the last few days are to be believed.
On Thursday, the print edition of Corriere dello Sport (via Sport Witness) suggested that Lazio, who were keen on landing the Tottenham man, could now end up missing out on the player after Premier League clubs entered the race.
The report stated that both Brentford and Brighton had expressed interest in the 22-year-old, adding that the winger now looks ‘destined’ to stay in England.
In fact, the publication even alleged that both the Bees and the Seagulls had already begun ‘negotiating’ with Tottenham over a temporary deal for the Spaniard.

Brentford discussed a January move for Bryan Gil
Jacobs has now confirmed that Thomas Frank’s men did indeed discuss a move for Gil earlier in the transfer window but the journalist seemed to suggest that the club have abandoned their pursuit of the player.
He told The Last Word on Spurs podcast: “Brentford actually wanted to explore a loan earlier in the window, but they didn’t move. But they had discussed the player internally due to a mix of injuries and players off to AFCON as well. But nothing happened.”

Before Tottenham decide to cut their losses on Gil, it would certainly be useful to give him a chance to prove himself in the Premier League. A loan move to another English side would be ideal but Spurs would want to ensure that the 22-year-old gets regular game time at the club he joins.
Whether Brentford would still want to take Gil given their pursuit of Antonio Nusa now remains to be seen.
