Journalist confirms Spurs are ‘keeping tabs’ on 30-year-old ahead of the summer

Journalist Pete O’Rourke believes that Tottenham are indeed one of the clubs interested in Christian Eriksen ahead of the summer.

Eriksen’s return to competitive action in the Premier League has been the feel-good story of the season following his cardiac arrest in last summer’s European Championship.

The 30-year-old has demonstrated for both club and country that he still possesses the quality in the final third that made him such a potent threat during his time at Spurs.

Reports over recent weeks have indicated that Tottenham are contemplating bringing Eriksen back to North London in the summer for a second spell when his six-month contract with Brentford runs out (The Daily Mail).

According to Football Insider, the Denmark international is keen on completing a fairytale return to the Lilywhites.

O’Rourke has now said that Spurs are watching Eriksen’s progress but suggested the Lilywhites could face plenty of competition if he does not sign a new deal with the Bees.

The journalist told GiveMeSport regarding Tottenham’s interest in Eriksen: “They are keeping tabs on him. His return to the Premier League has been a real fairytale.

“It’s been a real brilliant story; it looks like he’s never been away after that horrific cardiac arrest he suffered in the Euros.

“He’s found his top form and has proven what a class player he is, and I’m sure if he’s unable to agree a new deal at Brentford, there will be a lot of clubs in for him, not just Tottenham.”

This move would make sense for many reasons, not least because we are lacking a number eight of Eriksen’s quality in our squad. Signing the Dane would give Conte plenty of options and we could certainly use his creativity in games like the one against Brighton on Saturday.
