Journalist confirms Spurs scouted centre-back this week – Still deciding on potential bid

Sky Sports’ Lyall Thomas has revealed that while Tottenham Hotspur do hold an interest in Blackburn Rovers starlet Ashley Phillips, the club are yet to make a bid for the centre-back.

Phillips has made three appearances for Blackburn’s senior side so far this season despite being just 17 years of age.

The Daily Mail reported earlier this week that the defender caught the eye of Spurs scouts with his performances for Rovers’ development side last season.

The report added that while the teenager was also of interest to Manchester United and Chelsea, Spurs were looking to strike a deal for the youngster ahead of their rivals.

It was explained that Fabio Paratici would watch Phillips during Rovers’ game at Reading on Wednesday before Tottenham pushed ahead with an offer.

Thomas has now taken to social media to state that Paratici was indeed at the Madejski Stadium on Wednesday to watch the centre-back in action but he revealed that Spurs have not submitted a bid for the player.

The journalist added that Tottenham are yet to make a decision on whether to pursue the 6ft 4ins defender while Blackburn are keen to tie him down to new contract.

Thomas also said that if the Lilywhites do snap up Phillips, he will either go into the club’s academy set-up or be loaned out.

It does not seem like Phillips had a good outing on Wednesday, with Blackburn falling to a 3-0 defeat against Reading. Perhaps, that is what has put some doubts into Paratici’s mind on whether signing the youngster would be worth it.
