Tottenham have spoken internally about £43m striker – Journalist confirms

Journalist Ben Jacobs has confirmed that Tottenham Hotspur have held conversations about making a move for a former Premier League striker, who is banging in goals for fun in the Serie A this season. However, the North London club might have one roadblock in their efforts to sign the player.

Moise Kean is finally showing his class at Fiorentina

Moise Kean has been tipped for big things ever since he was a teenager but after failing to live up to his potential at Everton, Paris Saint-Germain and Juventus, the forward finally appears to have come of age since his switch to Fiorentina last summer.

The centre-forward has scored 19 goals across all competitions so far this season and is showing no signs of slowing down, with his goalscoring exploits thought to be attracting interest from the Premier League.

A number of outlets over recent weeks have claimed that Spurs are eyeing a move for the 24-year-old in the summer but may face competition from some of their Premier League rivals, including Aston Villa.

Ben Jacobs offers update on Tottenham’s pursuit of Moise Kean

Ben Jacobs has now revealed that the Fiorentina man’s name has indeed been discussed internally at Hotspur Way, but he explained that the Lilywhites are yet to make a concrete approach for the player.

The journalist also expressed doubt over whether the Italy international would be keen to leave Viola after just one season, thus complicating Tottenham’s transfer pursuit.

When asked about Spurs‘ interest in Kean, Jacobs told GiveMeSport: “From Tottenham’s point of view, it really is just something that has been spoken about internally [signing Moise Kean].

“There’s been no kind of approach or legwork yet with a view to the summer, so it may be one to watch, but I don’t think there’s a guarantee at this point that Kean himself is looking to leave Fiorentina – who he only joined this season.

“When a player has this kind of breakthrough, a bit like Ademola Lookman at Atalanta, they often are relatively loyal to their club. And the release clause that he has, which I think is in excess of €50million (£43million), is far too high for anyone to consider triggering it at this stage.”

Tottenham need a striker in the summer

Even if Spurs were to make Mathys Tel‘s loan move permanent, they would likely be in the market for further reinforcements upfront in the summer.

This is because Timo Werner‘s loan spell will come to an end while question marks also remain about Richarlison‘s future at the club, given his injury woes.

Kean would fit the bill for Spurs, given his versatility, engine and age, and £43m may not be considered a steep fee by Ange Postecoglou‘s side, given how difficult it is to find top-class number nines in the current market.
