Journalist details the kind of manager Spurs are looking for – With one ‘exception’

The Times reporter Gary Jacob has revealed that Tottenham Hotspur are looking for a young, up-and-coming head coach, who can build a long-term project at the club, with Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou being the only odd man out on their wishlist.

The experiment of going after proven winners in Jose Mourinho and Antonio Conte has backfired for Tottenham over the last few years, with reports indicating that it is only a matter of time before the Italian is asked to pack his bags (Telegraph).

The Evening Standard’s Dan Kilpatrick claimed on Tuesday that the most likely scenario is for Spurs to install Ryan Mason as an interim manager until the end of the season so they have time to hold talks with the likes of Postecoglou, Luis Enrique, Roberto De Zerbi, and Ruben Amorim.

Jacobs has now revealed that Spurs are looking to go back to a coach of the mould of Mauricio Pochettino and Martin Jol, claiming that the Celtic boss is the only experienced coach on the North London club’s radar.

The journalist told beIN SPORTS: “Spurs are looking at other managers, they’re looking at various up-and-coming managers, perhaps the exception slightly being Ange at Celtic, who’s slightly older.

“But all the managers they’re looking at are coaches and they seem to kind of accept that this time, it’s going to be a coach rather than what they tried before with Jose and Conte as a ‘winner’, because that’s not worked.

“I think they’re going to back to a slight reset of going back to the model they had in the past with people like Martin Jol and Pochettino and kind of slowly go and build with a coach.”

Spurs Web Opinion

We need a coach who plays progressive, possession-based football and someone who instils confidence in the squad and brings everyone at the club together.

Appointing ‘win-now’ coaches like Mourinho and Conte, who come with inflated egos, has only led to divisions among the fan base and has created a toxic atmosphere at the club.
