Journalist does not expect 22-year-old to leave Spurs in January

Journalist Pete O’Rourke has revealed that he does not expect Djed Spence to be loaned out in January despite the right-back’s struggles for game time so far this season.

Spence has seen just a few minutes of action this season since his summer move from Middlesbrough, coming on as a substitute in the final stages of Tottenham’s 2-0 win over Nottingham Forest back in August.

Conte praised the England Under-21 international for his attitude in training last month but he admitted that the youngster needs time to adapt to the demands of top-flight football (Football.London).

The Spurs head coach has continued to show faith in Emerson Royal, who has started all but one of the ten games that the Lilywhites have played across all competitions so far this season.

However, with Emerson being suspended for the next three matches following his straight red against Arsenal, Spence and Matt Doherty might be hopeful of getting a look in over the coming weeks.

When asked if Tottenham could potentially loan Spence out in January, O’Rourke has now told GiveMeSport: “I just think with the World Cup and everything that’s going on, Antonio Conte will want to keep hold of his squad for the rest of the season.”

I believe we will see Spence being handed a lot more opportunities in the second half of the season. The 22-year-old will want to prove a point to Conte and his coaching staff during the one-month break in November when the majority of the squad will be at the World Cup.
