Journalist does not expect PL club to sell player allegedly wanted by Spurs

The Daily Express journalist Ryan Taylor has confirmed that Tottenham Hotspur like Tomas Soucek but he expects West Ham United to hang on to the midfielder.

Soucek has been a regular in David Moyes’ starting eleven since completing a permanent move to the London Stadium in 2020 following his loan spell at the club the previous year.

Football.London’s Alasdair Gold revealed back in April that the 27-year-old was one of the midfielders on Antonio Conte’s radar this summer.

The Czech Republic international’s current contract has two years left to run and, The Daily Express claimed last month that Spurs and Juventus could look to swoop for the midfielder if the Hammers are unsuccessful in getting him to commit to a new contract.

Football Insider revealed a couple of weeks ago that talks between West Ham and Soucek over a new deal had stalled and the player’s representatives had subsequently offered him to Spurs.

Taylor has now claimed that while Soucek’s contract situation is not straightforward, he does not expect West Ham to weaken their squad by offloading the former Slavia Prague star.

The journalist told GiveMeSport: “Soucek is an interesting one because it appears that his contract situation isn’t crystal clear whether he’s going to sign, it’s not straightforward.

“Interestingly, I heard about six weeks ago that he’s a player Tottenham like, which I find quite strange.

“I think clubs will look at Soucek if his contract runs down, but the way I see it is West Ham will be looking to improve their squad rather than offload.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Soucek could be a decent squad player under Antonio Conte but I do not think West Ham will sell the 27-year-old to Spurs under any circumstances, given the bad blood between the two club’s owners. So, I do not think the Spurs hierarchy will be wasting too much time exploring a deal for the Hammers star this summer.
