Journalist expects linked-away Spurs midfielder to ‘at least’ stay until summer

The Athletic’s Jack Pitt-Brooke has claimed he expects Harry Winks to stay at Tottenham Hotspur at least until the end of the season.

Winks initially seemed like he had an uphill battle to save his Tottenham career under Conte, with reports indicating at the start of December that Newcastle were keen on a move for the midfielder.

However, the 25-year-old’s fortunes seem to have changed over the last few days, after he put in a Man of the Match display in Tottenham’s 2-2 draw against Liverpool.

That was just the Spurs academy graduate’s second start under Conte and he earned the Tottenham boss’ praise for his performance.

Dele All, who is another player who was alleged to be on his way out of Spurs, also put in an excellent display against the Reds.

Pitt-Brooke has now revealed that both Alli and Winks could be set to stay at the club beyond the January transfer window.

In response to a question from a fan on the future’s of both players, the journalist revealed on The Athletic’s transfer mailbag that Conte likes the ‘energy and positivity’ that Winks brings to midfield.

Pitt-Brooke revealed that the 25-year-old has always wanted to stay at his boyhood club and fight for his future.

Spurs Web Opinion

I did not think there was a chance of Winks leaving in January. Even before his performance against Liverpool, I suspected that the lack of options in the central midfield area would mean that the 25-year-old would only be let go at the end of the season.

The situation with Dele is a little different to Winks and I do not think the former MK Dons man is guaranteed to still be at Spurs when the transfer window closes. He has to string several good performances together if he is to convince Conte that he deserves to be part of his plans.
